Every August, South Africa marks Women’s Month — a time to honour the countless contributions of women across our society, to reflect on the continuing struggles against inequality, and to recommit ourselves to the pursuit of justice and equity. As healthcare professionals, we are uniquely placed to translate this national ethos into something more than symbolism. We must use this month not only to celebrate women, but also to interrogate how health systems — including our own clinical practices — continue to overlook, misunderstand, or under-treat the pain that disproportionately affects women.
